Eyal Kattan

Founder & President, Media Nexus Inc

A career built around how people experience technology — from the DJ booth and editing suite to enterprise software, luxury residences, and commercial spaces.

Eyal Kattan’s path to founding Media Nexus didn’t begin in a boardroom. It began with a fascination for how people experience sound, images, spaces, and—eventually—technology.

Through the late 1980s and 1990s, Eyal owned and operated a DJ business serving events and clubs. Learning to read a room, understand an audience, and create the right experience became an early foundation for the way he approaches technology today. In the same years he also ran a video production and editing company, bringing together sound and visual storytelling and developing a deeper understanding of how people experience and remember media.

In the mid-1990s, driven by curiosity, Eyal taught himself computer programming. He mastered Smalltalk and object-oriented design, beginning a technology career built largely through hands-on experimentation, problem-solving, and a desire to understand how systems work.

After moving to New York in 1998, Eyal joined Columbia University, where he led a large-scale Java project. He later joined Ogilvy & Mather as a Senior Software Developer, leading a major initiative in collaboration with IBM’s e-Business division. His time there expanded his expertise beyond software engineering into user experience, information architecture, and usability—disciplines that continue to influence his philosophy today: technology should be powerful, intuitive, and designed around the person using it.

In the years that followed, Eyal consulted for organizations including AIG and Nitida, then served as Director of Interactive Technologies at NBC, supporting web and interactive projects for brands and networks including Saturday Night Live, Sci-Fi, NBC Sports, and others.

Meanwhile, he was experimenting at home with Windows Media Center, automation, and wireless media streaming—successfully testing video streaming over Wi-Fi while that technology was still emerging. In 2007 those experiments became Media Nexus.

Eyal founded Media Nexus to design and build custom media-streaming servers and clients that made sophisticated technology easier and more natural to use. One of the company’s early systems was purchased by Saturday Night Live for its research department—a meaningful validation of an idea that had begun as a personal experiment.

After relocating from New York to Atlanta in 2009, Eyal expanded Media Nexus into luxury residential technology, integrating whole-home automation and media systems using platforms including Windows Media Center and Lifeware. Since 2015, that work has continued to evolve into commercial environments as well.

Throughout that evolution, Eyal’s guiding principle has remained consistent: technology should enhance an environment, not dominate it.

His perspective is also shaped by a lifelong passion for exploration. Eyal earned his Advanced Open Water scuba certification in 1995 and has since dived—and photographed, especially underwater—throughout the Red Sea, Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and Ningaloo Reef, the Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico. Waiting for light and stillness beneath the surface reinforced qualities that matter in his work as well—patience, attention to detail, respect for complex systems, and focus in environments where every element counts.

Today, as Founder and President of Media Nexus, Eyal brings together more than three decades of experience across entertainment, media production, software engineering, interactive technology, automation, and system design.

From the DJ booth and editing suite to enterprise software, luxury residences, and commercial spaces, the thread is the same: understand the experience first, then build the technology around it.

At Media Nexus, that philosophy continues to drive every project—creating intelligent, intuitive environments where technology works in the background and the experience takes center stage.
